1. CEIEI practice In your R/W notebook, in the journal section respond to the following prompt in CEIEI format. How does various literary elements (character, setting, plot, symbols, motif, etc.) contribute to the following theme from TKAM: Coming of age involves recognizing different perspectives CEIEI peer share out 2. Creating an outline practice (with groups) •In groups of four you will create an outline •Using the same theme from today’s CEIEI practice (Coming of age involves recognizing different perspectives) create an outline for a possible analysis essay •The format can be found in your textbook on pg. 258 •For the hook, identify the type of hook you would choose. •Use your journal to assist with the claims & evidence •Restate the thesis statement in a new and different way •Create a theme statement (this is the last thing) Formula for writing a theme statement = The (genre) (title) by (author) focuses on (main idea) and reveals (statement about humanity). Research: Annotated Sources Write your three claims to support your thesis statement (these were handed back in class and conferences were held if needed) In class, start your actual research using your sources that you brought in. You should have a minimum of 3 sources with a minimum of six pieces of evidence (quotes) identified. For each each piece of evidence you should have annotations detaling the reasoning for that evidence. HW: Finish the Annotated Sources assignment. - On Monday, you should have in class at least 3 sources with at least 6 annotations that have been annotated according to the instructions provided in Step 4. Continue reading TKAM and annotating as you read - you will have a quiz over chapters 1- 17 on Monday. If your discussion group is on Monday be prepared to facilitate the next discussion. AGENDA 1. You want to choose the sources that you most strongly believe you will use for evidence. Tomorrow, you will work on your claims for your paper and identifying evidence to support that evidence using your sources.
