Colin & Daxton Bell
Greetings!
I am, Rionda B. Bell, or Mrs. Bell to my students, or THE Rionda Bell to those who know me best. I am a native of Powder Springs, Georgia a graduate of McEachern High School, Albany State University, and Central Michigan University. I am married to Michael Bell and mother to 2 children. Colin attends college in New Mexico and Daxton--the baby, is in preschool. I consider myself and lifetime learner and a lover of words! Currently, I am an English teacher at Hillgrove High School where I also have the pleasure of coaching the Varsity Basketball and Game Day cheerleading squads.
When I am not teaching, coaching, or learning I love to craft, paint, shop, read, travel, participating in various community service projects, and most of all spending time with my family and friends. As an English teacher I strive to instill in each of my students the importance of learning through literacy. My goal is not to make them into English teachers, however it is my intention to guide each of them into becoming “literary archaeologist,” dig deeper into each piece of text. My philosophy of education is summed up by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.”
I want for each of my students to love learning and to become deep critical thinkers. Learning to think critically will transpose across multiple subjects. This year, I will be working along with my students to learn new things including becoming more digitally savvy and connected. I will use this blog and other various forms of digital learning opportunities to create learning resources and opportunities as well as to communicate with students and parents.
